Combined tour of Scopello and Segesta
Segesta
The Archaeological Park of Segesta is a must-see for archaeology lovers or anyone wishing to experience the thrill of stepping back in time. Located in the area of Calatafimi Segesta, in the province of Trapani, it was one of the main cities of the ancient Elymians, a native Sicilian people.
The majestic Greek temple, considered one of the most fascinating and mysterious of Magna Graecia, stands in a breathtaking natural setting. Nearby, you’ll find the Ancient Theatre, built at the top of Mount Barbaro in the late 3rd century BC in the Greco-Hellenistic style. It could seat around 4,000 spectators and boasts a natural backdrop of rolling hills and the distant sea.
Scopello
Scopello is a charming seaside village and a district of Castellammare del Golfo, nestled between San Vito Lo Capo and the Zingaro Nature Reserve. It’s one of the most picturesque spots along the Trapani coast, famous for its iconic sea stacks and the historic Tonnara, opening onto a truly breathtaking view.
The Tonnara of Scopello is one of the oldest and most important in Sicily, with its origins dating back to the 13th century. The main structure was built in the 15th century by Giovanni Sanclemente and later expanded. Over the years, it passed to the Jesuit Order and finally to the Florio family.
Just a short walk from the main square lies Guidaloca Bay, a crescent-shaped beach about 400 meters long, made of pebbles and bordered by two rocky points. On the western side stands a 16th-century cylindrical watchtower, once used to guard the coastline.
A true paradise worth discovering.
