The medieval village overlooking Trapani – home to the Ettore Majorana research center

Erice is a medieval village overlooking Trapani, home to the Ettore Majorana research center, and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area. If you have the chance to visit, choose sunset: the view over the Trapani salt flats at that time is breathtaking. Remember to bring a jacket, as Erice is located 751 meters above sea level, and even in the height of summer, the temperature is several degrees lower than on the coast.

Erice offers two fascinating faces: the bright and sunny one of hot summer days, when light floods the narrow streets and stunning views open up over the valley and the sea, and the mysterious one of winter days, when the town is wrapped in clouds, creating a timeless atmosphere. The fresh air, surrounding pine forests, peaceful ambiance, and local craftsmanship make it a must-visit destination.

Erice is also a city of science and peace, rich in history and traditions that have stood the test of time. Its breathtaking landscapes stretch from western Sicily’s inland areas to the enchanting Egadi Islands.

Another unique aspect of Erice is its pastry tradition. The famous Ericini, small and refined sweets, originate from the ancient recipes of the monastery nuns. Even today, they are prepared following tradition, with artistically decorated pastries filled with cedar marmalade, matured in special jars.
